Rome Sentinel July 18, 1934 Eugene Van Schaick, Veteran N. Y. State Railroader, Dies Whitesboro, July 18 – Eugene Van Schaick, 67, railroader in New York State for nearly five decades, died suddenly at his home here last night. Mr. Van Schaick learned the art of telegraphy as a young man and worked as telegraph operator at Troy on the Troy & Fitchburg Railroad for three years. He came to Utica in 1892 and six months later was transferred to Whitesboro where he was promoted to the position of station agent. He has held that position for the last 40 years. Besides his wife, whose maiden name was Dora Williams; he leaves three sons, Stanley, Howard and Elliott H., all of Whitesboro.
